Benoit Job Bills

Sacramento - Senate Republican Leader Dennis Hollingsworth (R-Murrieta) today released a joint statement with Senators John J. Benoit (R-Bermuda Dunes), Tom Harman (R-Huntington Beach), and Mark Wyland (R-Carlsbad), concerning the outcome of this mornings Senate Labor Committee. Senate Bill 187, which would have provided flexible workweek options for employees and employers, was defeated on a party line vote. Senate Bill 807 would clarify the law relating to employee meal periods. The measure was placed on hold along with other workplace flexibility. Both of these bills, authored by Senator Benoit, are widely considered to be job creators. Senate Republican Caucus members commented on votes in todays Senate Labor Committee hearing: Senator Hollingsworth joined his colleagues by saying, Senate Republicans continue to stand for jobs and working families. We can't keep adding restriction after regulation on California business if we intend to create jobs in this state. It just makes sense to allow employers the flexibility they need to do business. While my workplace flexibility legislation did not pass today, the committee recognized the importance of this issue and agreed to hold the bill in order to continue working with me. We all know the challenges working families face today in California. I will continue to meet with all parties to address those challenges and help our economy move forward, stated Senator Benoit.
